Why Our Students Love Canterbury

BATTLE OF THE FORMS

The electrifying Battle of the Forms is hosted annually in Pigott Arena. Each Form competes against one another in a variety of competitions, including a three-legged race, half court shot, and student/faculty mummy wrapping.

ENGINEERING BOAT CLASS

With the cheers and screams of nearly the entire study body, twice a year students in the Engineering class race across the pool in a cardboard box as they hope to float their way to victory.

SPRING MUSICAL

The Spring Musical is the highlight of the academic year. Any student can participate as our Theater Department does not conflict with other after-school activities...and most students choose to do so!

HILLTOP SUNSETS

Our beautiful hilltop looks westward over the Housatonic Range, a perfect backdrop for the sunset over the rolling hills. With orange, purple, and pink hues, #cburyskies are the perfect close to the busy school days.

HOLIDAY DINNERS

The entire Canterbury community gathers for meals throughout the year, but the most highly anticipated meals are right before our holiday breaks when the dining hall hosts family-styled dinners.

PINK OUT

Saints come out in full force at the Pink Out volleyball game each fall when the Varsity team raises money for Susan G. Komen for the Cur. Points are awarded for each pink item a student wears!

CANTERBURY GAMES

The Canterbury Games kick off each academic year as the Houses (dorms) compete against one another in challenges scattered across the Field House including ping-pong, basketball, and volleyball.

BLOCK PARTY

Students, faculty, and faculty children gather to kick-off the year with a food and fun outside of the Athletic Center at our Annual Block Party and Color Run. There is no better way to join friends back together!

SPRING CARNIVAL

With food trucks, live music, lawn games, and a dunk tank, the Spring Carnival, hosted in May, gives students the chance to soak in the sun and fun as a full student body before the Sixth Form graduates.

LIFELONG FRIENDS

The Society of Alumni, both formally and informally, greets all Canterbury classes upon their Commencement with a lifetime membership to the Canterbury network.

WEEKEND DANCES AND PROM

From Planned Formal events to impromtu dance parties, weekend dances at Canterbury are always part of the weekend activity plan that the Student Events Committee (SEC) dreams up for the student body.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

Each spring, alumni from across the country join together and return to campus for a night of musical talent, reminiscent of a rock concert  in Maguire Auditorium.

GUNNERY WEEK

Our fall athletic seasons ends with Gunnery Week, a five-day spirited lead up to Saturday's Gunnery Day during which all of our teams compete against one another for the Canterbury-Gunnery Cup.

PEP RALLY AND BONFIRE

The Pep Rally and Bonfire that conclude Gunnery Week and the end of our fall athletic season are two of the most memorable annual events, filled with Canterbury spirit and excitement across all Forms, teams, and residential Houses.

GLOBAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

From Lourdes, France to Esteli, Nicaragua, students at Canterbury have the opportunity to travel across the globe on service learning trips during which they grow with their classmates and discover the world around them.

STUDENT JURIED ART SHOW

Following a year of practice and preparation, students demonstrate their artistic talents at the Juried Art Show in the Edward J. Duffy Art Gallery each spring. Students across showcase their distinct mediums and yearlong progress for the entire school to see!

FORM RETREATS

Each Form goes on an annual Form Retreat, a time for reflection, unity, and service as an entire class.

DONOVAN CENTER FOR LEARNING

The Donovan Center for Learning offers students academic counseling, SAT/ACT preparation, peer tutoring, group, and individual tutoring sessions, and quiet testing rooms. The Center is a study place for students to ask homework questions as well as address day-to-day academic concerns and questions.
