Artistic Talents Shine on Alumni Weekend

Nine alumni artists shared their fabulous work with the Canterbury community at the Alumni Art Exhibit last weekend in the Edward J. Duffy Family Art Center and Gallery. The exhibit, held during Alumni Weekend, showcased various art created by alumni from different graduating years and artistic practices during the two-hour presentation and reception.

We applaud and appreciate these exceptional artists for contributing their time and talents to the exhibit:

Sean Kernan ’60
Marc Vanasse ’73
Michael Berman ’74
Dalia Hierro ’86
Thomas Gilligan ’97
Stephanie Goos Johnson ’97
Heather Williams de Courreges ’97
Katherine Roffe ’15
Tyrus Xanthos ’16

The exhibit was very well-received by visitors, and the alumni participants were equally enthusiastic about being a part of it. “It was great! Believe it or not, I have only been in two art shows eight years apart, and both of them were at Canterbury,” said Tyrus, a professional photographer. “It was humbling to see how far I have come and how different my work is now versus back then. I felt a tremendous amount of support from the faculty, other artists, and my friends. I even got to catch up with the man who started me on this path, Mr. Vanasse!” In addition to being a fellow Saint and contributing artist, Marc Vanasse is a former Fine Arts Teacher at Canterbury.

Heather, a fashion brand consultant in New York City, was grateful for the experience as well. “It was nice to witness the different ways alumni are applying fine art in their lives. Regardless of their graduation years, everyone had that creative thread in common,” she said. “The opportunity to explore different forms of fine arts at Canterbury made a creative career path feel more realistic for me.”

We cannot wait to welcome more amazing alumni artists to campus for future exhibits.
