Canterbury’s Production of 'High School Musical: On Stage' Is “What We’ve Been Looking For”

On April 24 and 25, Maguire Auditorium was transformed from Canterbury School to East High School for this year’s spring show, High School Musical: On Stage! Wildcats, Thespians, and Brainiacs were “all in this together” for two nights of toe-tapping music, energetic choreography, and a whole lot of nostalgia for one of our favorite Disney musicals!

Co-directors Keiko Mathewson and Christopher Rich encouraged the actors not to “stick to the status quo” and to look past the “Disney” label of the show to get to the heart of the characters and themes.

“Beyond the iconic songs and the varsity jackets, this is a show about the terrifying, exhilarating moment of deciding who you want to be when the world has already decided for you,” Mrs. Mathewson wrote in the show’s program. “At its core, our production explores the tension between the cliques we belong to and the individuals we are becoming.”
