Canterbury’s Winter Concert Delivers Moving Performances of Classic Love Songs

Valentine’s Day may have passed, but love was still in the air on the hilltop February 19 when friends, family, and other guests gathered in the Steers Center’s Ragland Commons for the Affair of the Heart winter concert. The showcase has become a winter tradition in recent years, highlighting the talent and hard work of Canterbury’s musicians while offering audiences an evening of heartfelt performances.

Canterbury Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Canterbury Singers, Varsity Voices, and private vocal students performed an assortment of songs about romance, friendship, and even a bit of heartbreak.  In addition to classical and contemporary music, songs ranged from Broadway to Ed Sheeran and from opera to Disney. The evening closed with Bert Kaempfert’s timeless jazz standard “L.O.V.E.”

"Our performing arts students wowed the audience,” says Performing Arts Chair Christopher Rich. “The diverse program gave these students an opportunity to explore music from a variety of genres while expanding and perfecting their technique and performance skills. They should be very proud of themselves.”

Congratulations to all of Canterbury’s talented musicians!
