Learning from Leaders: Students Explore Careers in Digital Media at NYU

Greg Coleman, wearing a light blue sweater, holds two thumbs up as he smiles with five Canterbury students in his classroom.

The digital media landscape is fast-paced, far-reaching, and exciting. But for young people interested in learning more about the websites, social media platforms, and apps that have become a part of our everyday lives, it can be difficult to know where to begin, especially when considering future careers. Fortunately for Canterbury students, they have the opportunity to learn from the experts thanks to Greg Coleman ’72, P ’05.

Since 2021, Greg has invited Saints to New York University’s Stern School of Business to experience his class, Digital Media Innovation. Last week, Director of Curriculum Kelli Darrin P ’26, ’27, ’29 accompanied five media-savvy students to New York City to sit in on the course. They heard from Michelle Bacharach, CEO and Co-Founder of FindMine, an award-winning AI fashion and retail platform, and Reggie Renner, co-founder and CEO of Static Media, a media network of more than 30 websites. While these guest speakers had very different career trajectories, they both offered insight into the evolving digital media landscape and the rapidly changing industry.

“It’s really about giving students the chance to experience an MBA-level classroom, hear from professionals in the field, and understand how different career paths develop,” she explains. “That exposure, combined with the alumni connection and staying current with what’s happening in the industry, makes it incredibly valuable.”

For his part, Greg hopes this experience will help his fellow Saints understand the importance of ongoing, lifelong learning.

“I want them to come away from my class with a better understanding of real-world issues in business and to inspire them to lean in every day,” he says. “I mostly enjoy watching them react to business leaders, especially when my speakers are answering tough questions from my MBA students. I hope my class inspires them to get ready for the adventures ahead.”

The School’s alumni network, as well as its proximity to New York City, offers many opportunities for students to take their learning beyond the hilltop. We’re grateful to Greg, his speakers, and his students for giving our Saints a glimpse into the exciting world of innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital media.
