Old Friends Making New Memories

Old Friends Making New Memories

This past weekend, Canterbury’s “Old Guard”—alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago—returned to campus to make new memories with old friends.

The celebration kicked off on Friday, September 26, with a private dinner for the Class of 1965 at Stanziano’s in Danbury. With everything on the schedule for Saturday, a relaxing, restful dinner was surely warranted!

Alumni arrived on campus Saturday morning, when they sat in on classes and toured the campus. (More than a few changes have been happening on the hilltop over the past five decades!) After meeting with current students and Head of School Caroline Blatti to get a fuller picture of what the Canterbury experience is like in 2025, everyone enjoyed lunch and a series of on-campus athletic contests before concluding the weekend with cocktails and dinner at O’Connor House.

"Expectations and excitement are always very high with every Class of 1965 gathering, on or off campus," says alumnus Dan LaChance. "Our 60th Reunion far exceeded them, as one third of our class attended, possibly a school record for a 60th Reunion. From observing various classes in session, to touring the beautiful hilltop campus with so many amazing developments and much more, we're extremely grateful to Advancement's Kate Heslin and Courtney Delaney for making it all happen for us!"

"Having the chance to welcome these alumni, walk beside them on familiar paths, and hear their Canterbury stories firsthand was one of the highlights of my first months as Head of School," says Head of School Caroline Blatti. "For me, it was also a powerful reminder of the deep roots that connect generations of graduates."

"My brick at the entrance to the Old Schoolhouse still rings true," observes Dan. "'Thank God for Canterbury School!'"

It’s always a pleasure to welcome alumni back home: they are an invaluable part of the Canterbury community, and always know how to have a good time! We can’t wait to see everyone again at the next event.
