Parents Experience a Weekend in the Life at Canterbury

Parents Experience a Weekend in the Life at Canterbury

Students’ families are always a part of the Canterbury community, but rarely are so many of them on campus at once! On Friday, October 17, hundreds of Canterbury parents, grandparents, siblings, and other loved ones arrived on the hilltop for Family Weekend—an opportunity to experience the School through their child’s eyes.

After Head of School Caroline Blatti welcomed them in the Chapel of Our Lady, parents and others gathered at Wallace Mall as their children exited School Meeting. The atmosphere was lively and energetic as families all found one another in the crowd—with plenty of heads turning to calls of “mom!”

Once families greeted each other with hugs and smiles, it was off to classes to observe—and in some cases participate in—their students’ lessons. As fun as it was to go “back to school” for the first time in a long time, families most enjoyed seeing students in their element at Canterbury. “Parents and grandparents shared how amazing it was to see their child engage with other students in the classroom,” says English teacher Noah Gichan.

After classes and lunch, parents were able to meet with teachers and coaches for conferences before attending athletic practices and dinner. Friday concluded with a concert celebration, featuring many talented singers and musicians from the School, in the Steers Center. Saturday offered further opportunities for class visits and conferences, as well as a chance to watch a number of athletic contests across the School’s fields and courts. The Saints appreciated the particularly spirited cheering sections!

It was a pleasure to have so many parents experience a few days of Canterbury life, and we look forward to welcoming them back soon.
