Saints Honored with Winter Athletic Awards and All-Conference Honors

Canterbury recognized its standout winter athletes at the annual Winter Athletic Awards Assembly for their impressive achievements. Several student-athletes were also honored with All-Conference selections in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), reflecting their exceptional performances and contributions to team success.

In presenting the awards, Padraic McCarthy ’94, Interim Director of Athletics and Curricular Programming, reviewed the postseason accomplishments of the winter season. He congratulated the Girls’ Varsity Squash team for winning the NEPSAC Class E title—its second in three years—as well as the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team for earning a postseason bid once again and advancing to the semifinal round of the NEPSAC Tournament.

Paddy also praised diver Henry Saunders ’27 for his first-place finish and swimmer Francesca Masi ’26 for winning the 100-yard Freestyle at the NEPSAC Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. He gave a shoutout as well to wrestlers Soren Rief ’25 for finishing first at the Western New England Wrestling Tournament and Sara Anderson ’27 for her fourth-place medal

Finally, he commended the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team and Head Coach Danielle Oddo for receiving the Sportsmanship Award from the Litchfield County Basketball Officials Board. The award recognizes coaches who demonstrate fair play, respect, and ethical behavior in their coaching practices, fostering a positive and sportsmanlike environment for their athletes.

“I appreciate the tremendous efforts of our athletes and coaches,” Paddy said. “I always enjoy watching them and am pleased to report that our current overall record in the Canterbury-FGS Cup is 24 wins, six losses, and one tie. Let’s keep it going, Saints!”
