Our standout Saints heard the roar of the crowd once more at the Spring Athletic Awards Assembly this May in Maguire Auditorium.
Director of Athletics Jim Stone P ’23, ’24 announced all-league recognition, revealed individual team awards, and acknowledged Varsity Baseball for advancing to the WNEPBL Championship Game and Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse for winning the Patriot Classic title. Lacrosse Team Captains Elsa Copeland ’24 and Virginia Zapletal ’24 presented the championship trophy to Head of School Rachel Stone P ’23, ’24 at the assembly. In addition, the Varsity Golf team had its best season in Head Coach Bob Potter’s 17 years at the helm, and Ryan Roberts ’24 was named a WNESSLA Division 2 U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American.
The Crew, Track, Golf, and Lacrosse teams each presented the Coaches’ Award and Most Valuable Player (MVP) honor to the Saints who were especially outstanding during the season.
In addition to naming MVPs, the Softball and Baseball teams presented the Barbara F. Sheehan Softball Award and Class of 1962 Baseball Award to the players who exhibited courage, leadership, team spirit, and ability that exemplifies Canterbury Athletics. The Girls’ Varsity Tennis team also awarded an MVP along with the Horace E. Tennes Girls’ Tennis Award for outstanding contribution to the girls’ tennis program, while Boys’ Varsity Tennis handed out the William Stephanek ’78 Boys’ Tennis Award recognizing leadership.
