Our Saints picked a great day to go for a walk—and a wonderful cause to walk for—when they participated in Walk a Mile for a Meal to benefit the New Milford Food Bank on September 22.
Kudos to these selfless Saints—Sara Anderson ’27, Calista-Carlotta Lilo Bickers ’26, Seoin “Eva” Choi ’25, Kaitlynn Kenna ’26, Rahee “Ren” Kim ’25, James Levell-Lynch ’27, Victoria Ostrowski ’26, Maeve Prendergast ’27, Hudson Soifersmith ’27, and Minhyo “Katie” Tae ’27—for volunteering to support this vital initiative organized by New Milford Social Services.
Each participant was provided a wish list to purchase a bag of food and gathered at Big Y in New Milford to begin their shopping. As always, Canterbury students went above and beyond.
“Our group did some extra shopping, and each pair of students bought nearly the entire suggested list,” said Science Teacher Sally Ruderman, who accompanied them for the day. “I am so proud of these young people for giving up their Sunday afternoon to help out.”
The Canterbury contingent then walked from Big Y to the Congregational Church Parish Hall located behind the First Congregational Church on the New Milford Town Green, where they delivered their bags of food.
Even though the goal of the day was giving to others, Katie said that she gained from the experience as well. “I felt satisfied and proud that our community was supporting people in need,” she shared. “I enjoyed talking with my classmates about what to buy and seeing all the participants on the road during the walk. Spending that time was well worth it, and I could imagine people smiling when they received all the food that we brought them.”
