Students in Canterbury’s Animal Anatomy class got up close and personal with the beautiful horses at Victory Lane Farm in Millbrook, New York, which is just what Science Teacher Derek Richardson had in mind when he planned last month’s field trip.
“The Animal Anatomy class is a complete animal approach from simple to complex,” he said. “We research, dissect, and learn about different animals, so any chance I get to expose the students to live animals enhances the experience.”
The visiting students received plenty of firsthand exposure to what it takes to care for the horses at the farm, which is owned by the parents of Canterbury student Cody Hew ’26. They learned about multiple types of horses and were instructed on diet, coat, and hoof/shoe maintenance. They also got an inside look at what it takes to run a horse farm. Some even participated in farm tasks!
The day was so helpful to students, Derek plans to visit during each new semester with his Animal Anatomy class. Shoutout to the Hews for welcoming and teaching our Saints!
