Experience New Milford

You are encouraged to explore New Milford’s buzzing town center, just a few minutes’ walk from Canterbury—it feels like an extension of the campus itself! There are plenty of ways to enjoy the town we call home, either with peers or when your family comes to visit.

Dining

Whether you are looking for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, you have a terrific menu of dining options in New Milford. Tasty Waves, the frozen yogurt shop, is a popular destination for advisee groups or team outings. (The more toppings, the better!) Several coffee shops welcome our students for a full Sunday afternoon study session or a quick trip during a free block. Pizza at All Aboard Pizzeria or Dominos, Chinese food from Oriental House, or freshly baked goods at River and Rail Cafe are all delicious options during your off-campus explorations. A variety of local fine-dining establishments offer cuisine for just about every taste.

Shopping, Arts, Entertainment, and More

Village Center for the Arts is a downtown staple on the New Milford Green, providing pottery and painting lessons along with open gallery space for local student artists. The Green and adjoining Bank Street and Church Street are also home to a modern public library, a handful of art galleries, clothing stores, and locally owned gift shops. You will find several places of worship as well. A farmer’s market offers local, fresh produce and flowers every Saturday morning in the spring through fall months. Plus, you can check out a CVS, barbershop, and movie theater close by.

The Great Outdoors

If you love getting outside for an adventure, New Milford is home to multiple beautiful walking, hiking, and biking destinations. Lovers Leap State Park has been featured in many publications including Yankee magazine and Connecticut Magazine. Harrybrooke Park hosts many annual public events such as a Haunted Trail in October and a Cornhole Tournament that benefits the local animal shelter. The options are many in this quintessential New England town!
