World Language
In the World Language Department at Canterbury, you'll discover the joy of learning a new language and the richness of different cultures. The goal is not just to teach you vocabulary and grammar, but to help you read, speak, and write effectively and fluently in a second language. Through storytelling and immersive class experiences, you'll grasp the language in a meaningful context, an approach that places a strong emphasis on comprehensive input. This foundation is further expanded through reading, speaking, writing, conversations, and group activities.
As you progress, you'll find encouragement to continue your language studies at the college level. You'll also have the opportunity to deepen your connection to the languages and cultures you're studying through chaperoned trips and exchange programs, enriching your educational journey by adding real-world experiences and interpersonal connections.
To ensure that each student master the grammar of another language, be conversational after three years’ of study, and develop an awareness of the culture in which the target language is spoken
