Move-In
In preparation for our entire community’s return to campus, student arrivals will be staggered according to the following schedule:
- August 29 - Student Leaders
- September 1 - Returning Varsity & Invited Athletes
- September 5 - All Other Students
A detailed schedule of registration dates for each of the above dates as well as schedules for the student leadership seminars and preseason will be published within the coming weeks. For those with flights organizing timely arrival to campus for registration, families can plan for each day’s registration to take place between the hours listed above.
Dorm Rooms
Dorm room sizes vary depending on the number of students per room, with approximate measurements as follows:
- Single: 8 x 9 feet
- Double: 12 x 16 feet
- Triple: 12 x 17 feet
Laundry Service
Dorm students wishing to do their own laundry on campus have access to card activated washers and dryers located in the dorms. To utilize these machines, students will need a laundry card and access to cash to add additional loads of wash to their card. A kiosk to add funds to the card is located in the basement of Steel Hall.
An initial laundry card will be provided to each electing to use on campus laundry. The card is pre-loaded with $3.80, which will be directly charged to the student’s debit card account. Laundry cards are reusable and should be kept for use the entire duration of the student’s attendance at Canterbury School. If a card is lost, stolen or damaged, the replacement fee for each card is $5.00.
One load of wash = $3.80 ($1.90 wash / $1.90 dry)
For dorm students not wanting to do all or part of their laundry, Canterbury School works with E & R The Campus Laundry to provide a full line of pick-up and delivery laundry and dry cleaning services to accommodate our student’s needs. They offer a couple of options which you can contact directly for your different needs: eandrcleaners.com.
Students may also walk downtown to the green in New Milford to use either of the two local laundry and dry cleaning establishments.
What to Bring
Additional questions on boarding student information, please contact the Student Life Office via email or phone. We are also happy to put new families in touch with the Dorm Head and Proctors (student leaders) of each dorm for additional details.

When will a student use the Canterbury Debit Card?
Guided by the Canterbury Debit Card Account Form, the student ID Debit Card is a prepaid money management debit card account that allows purchases at the School Store and Café. Both discretionary and non-discretionary charges are posted to this account. Non-discretionary charges include but are not limited to, student activities, athletic equipment and supplies. If desired, parents may allow their student to receive a cash allowance at the debit card desk, located in the student mailroom. The ID Debit Card serves as a photo ID and as an access key to the Steers Center, Duffy Family Art Gallery and for boarding student’s dormitory door locks. In addition, students and the Canterbury Athletic Department charge this account for equipment and supplies purchases.
When will new students receive their Canterbury ID/Debit Card?
What if a student loses their card?
Students can email debitcard@cbury.org or stop by the Debit Card Desk, located in the Student MailRoom to request a new card. Their first card is no charge, replacement fee for each Lost/Stolen/Damaged Card is $15.00. Students use the same card(s); ID Debit Card and Laundry Card each year they attend Canterbury.

They will receive a welcome email directly from MyKidsSpending.com indicating the steps to follow, view and/or fund the account. Please use the alternate payment options for the initial deposit due on or before July 31.
What are the different Spending Categories Restrictions?
Parents wishing to limit their child’s spending may leave the account Unrestricted, or Restrict the categories by the week, or month. If you want your child to have no spending capabilities in any category, check “Block Spending” on the Debit Card Account Form.
- Allowance – cash withdrawals, includes cash for on-campus laundry
The school maximum for allowance withdrawals, whether restricted or unrestricted, is $50/day.
If a spending limit is set up per week, unused funds will carry over into the next period (only for cash allowance). If you do not wish to have the funds accrue (carry over to the next period) please select “Do Not Accrue” on the Debit/Spending Restriction Form.
For example, if a student has a spending limit of $50 per month, if he/she spends only $35 in October, he/she will have $65 per month for November. ($50 plus the previously unused $15)
- School Store – supplies, sundries and Saints apparel
- Café-Snack Bar – purchase of food at the campus snack bars
(Spending limits in the School Store and Cafe do not accrue (carry over to the next period.)
Can changes be made to restrictions during the school year?

NEW PARENTS
NEW PARENTS
The School Health Center, located in the Ingleside building on the west side of campus, is open daily and staffed by registered nurses who work closely with the School’s certified athletic trainers and guidance counselors. Our school doctor and medical director is Kenneth Marici, M.D. '87, P ' 20, '22.
For the past three years, we have partnered with Magnus Health School Medical Records to provide a simple, safe, and secure way to collect and manage our student’s health information.
As a parent, or guardian, you will be able to access your child's Magnus account and enter his or her health history, emergency contact information, and insurance cards. You will also be able to download all of the School medical forms, and electronically sign needed permission forms.
Once you receive your access (coming Summer 2025), log in to the School parent portal and access your student's Magnus Health account by clicking on the link to Magnus Health under the Portal Links section. Your User ID and password for Magnus are the same as the one that you use to log in to your parent portal.
Once you have access to your student’s account, please start to complete the health requirements as soon as possible. August 1 is our target date for the completion and submission of student medical information.
It is important to note that every student must meet the State of Connecticut immunization requirements, and must submit a physician’s report of a current, complete physical examination. Both forms are available to download and take to your child’s physician for completion.
Should you need assistance with technology please contact: Magnus Help Desk: 1-877-461-6831 or service@magnushealth.com.
RETURNING PARENTS
RETURNING PARENTS
Your student’s Magnus Health medical record will need to be updated in preparation for the upcoming School Year.
Please login to the School parent portal and access your student's Magnus Health account by clicking on the link to Magnus Health under the Portal Links section. Your user id and password for Magnus are the same as the one that you use to login to your parent portal.
Once you have accessed the account, you can update the student’s health history, upload new or updated action plans, immunization records, physicals, and insurance cards. You will also need to electronically sign the Permission To Treat and Releases form in the Magnus Health portal.
Please remember that every student must have the report of a current complete physical examination on his or her health record before returning to school and participating in Canterbury athletics.
We understand that because of insurance constraints a student’s annual physical may need to be performed later in the school year. When that is the case, you will receive a reminder email one month before your student’s physical expires. A student will not be allowed to continue participating in athletics if his or her physical has expired (not performed within twelve months).
As always, August 1st is our target date for completion of the School medical requirements.
If you encounter any difficulties accessing your student’s Magnus account or updating information, please contact: Magnus Help Desk: 1-877-461-6831 or service@magnushealth.com.
Travel Information
Canterbury School arranges bus transportation with faculty and staff drivers for school vacations on the schedule provided below. Fares are charged to the student’s debit card accounts based on the number of travelers per vehicle. Buses to and from Bradley International Airport, Westchester Airport, Brewster Train Station, Danbury Bus Station, LaGuardia Airport and JFK Airport are available at times specified below.
Students in need of ground transportation to or from airports or bus stations should make arrangements through the Student Life Office. Students are asked to complete a travel survey prior to every vacation. Local taxi companies provide travel services for a fee and accept cash or credit cards; students are not permitted to charge taxi fares to the School. Students may not call taxis or car services for local day leave permissions.
If a student misses a connection or has a change of plans, transportation must be canceled through the Student Life Office during regular school business hours to avoid the charge for any ground transportation that has been ordered. After school hours, parents/guardians are asked to report changes in plans to the Administrator on Duty at 860-605-6084.
Prior to the opening of school in the fall, we understand that students may have transportation requests. We will accommodate the requests as best we can but, due to faculty meetings and obligations, we cannot guarantee pickup. Families are asked to email us at studentlife@cbury.org with those requests and include itineraries.
Buses or vans run to and from (see schedule below):
-
Bradley International Airport (Hartford, CT), baggage claim downstairs, Terminal A
-
JFK Airport, baggage claim area, Terminal 1

For Bradley Airport, plan to have flight land no later than 3:00 pm. For 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm pick-ups at LaGuardia and JFK International Airports, plan to have flight land no later than 2:30 pm. For Westchester Airport, plan to have flight land no later than 4:30 pm.
While Canterbury will drop-off/pick-up at LaGuardia and JFK, we recommend that parents and students use Westchester Airport (HPN) or Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, CT. They are located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from campus and allow for much faster and easier travel for your child. Landing at JFK or LaGuardia airports may be a less expensive airfare but the cost of reaching campus from there can offset your savings. It can also add an additional three to four hours of travel to your trip. If you do use NYC airports, you may want to look into using the airport shuttle to Grand Central Station to ride the Metro North train line to the Brewster train station.
Transportation Resources
For transportation needs at times other than vacations, the following livery service contacts are provided for your convenience in arranging travel needs:

STUDENT LIFE
- How do I give my student permission to go off campus?
- Are students allowed to have cars on campus?
- Can students request permission to ride in an Uber or with day students?
- Can my student keep medication in the dorm?
- Can day students spend the night in the dorm?
- Are students allowed to walk off campus during free time?
- What size are the dorm rooms?
How do I give my student permission to go off campus?
There are several reasons why a boarding student would need to sign out to go off campus. Below are some examples of different types of sign outs and the permissions the Student Life Office would need for each.
Canterbury uses an online platform called REACH to assist with off-campus requests, permissions, and overnight protocols. All students have a REACH login via their Canterbury Gmail account, and new students gain access to the platform upon registration during their first day on campus. Both day and boarding students use REACH. Parents and guardians do not need a REACH login in order to give off-campus permissions: students are asked to initiate their own leave requests and the adults involved receive an email to approve or deny the request along with details of the off-campus ask.
REACH (or leave) request should be submitted
- Anytime a boarding student plans to miss a check-in or school commitment (class, practice, performance).
- Anytime a boarding student plans to depart campus or a Canterbury commitment (example: away game) in a non-Canterbury or non-family vehicle (example: teammate’s car).
- Anytime a day student plans to miss a full day or more of school commitments (example: college visit).
When submitting a “REACH”, students populate the request with departure and arrival times, transportation details, a few details on the reason for their departure (“going home for weekend,” “sleeping at friend’s house for the night”), and, when applicable, contact information for those at their destination. With the information populated, students submit their request. Parents and guardians then receive an email with the details of their student’s request and the ability to accept or deny the off-campus leave. With the parents’ decision, the Student Life Office and Dorm Heads accept or deny the leave in tandem with the parents’ wishes except in cases where students’ attendance records necessitate that they attend a Sunday detention.
Students should select “sign in with Google” and use their Canterbury account to access their REACH accounts. Again, new students will not have access until their first day on campus during registration
Signing out during the academic day for a medical appointment:
Day students who need to sign out for only part of the day for a medical appointment should contact the Student Life Office at studentlife@cbury.org or 860-210-3860/3861. We ask that families let the School know at least 24 hours in advance. Boarding students who need to sign out for part of the day for a medical appointment that is not scheduled through our Health Center should submit a REACH request.
Signing out overnight during the academic week:
While we like to minimize the number of times boarding students sign out overnight during the academic week, certain situations arise where a student needs to sign out of the dorm for a night. In these cases, students should submit a REACH request that gets sent to the Student Life Office, Dorm Head, and parents/guardians for approval.
If day students plan to “sign out” during the academic week (as in they will miss a number of school commitments during one or more days), they should plan to submit a leave request instead of or in addition to communicating with the Student Life Office via phone or email.
Signing out for the weekend:
Students are expected to attend all commitments, including athletic requirements (practice or contest) before signing out for the weekend. Boarding students who wish to sign out for the weekend, just as in the situations above, should submit a REACH request. Again, the request gets sent to the Student Life Office, Dorm Head, and parents/guardians for approval.
There are three weekends each academic year that ALL boarding students are required to remain on campus: the first two weekends of the year and Commencement Weekend (Underformers only).
Any boarding students who must serve a Sunday detention due to unexcused absences will not be permitted to leave that weekend.
Are students allowed to have cars on campus?
Boarding students are not permitted to have cars on campus. On rare occasions, exceptions are made for short-term reasons. All exceptions must be approved by the Student Life Office. For boarding families interested in learning more about car permissions should email or call the office directly at 860-210-3860/3861.
Day students with licenses are permitted to have cars on campus and are required to register their vehicle through the Student Life Office. There are specific locations on campus where day students of different Forms are required to park. During each registration date in the fall, day students who are planning to drive to campus regularly will be able to register their car and receive their parking space. There is no cost associated with having a vehicle on campus.
Day students with cars are not permitted to use their vehicles during the day until following their final commitment, academic, athletic, or otherwise. Day students can never drive boarding students—even within the confines of campus—without the correct permissions in place. Day students should also refrain from driving other day students unless it is at the end of their commitment for the day.
If a day student receives their license during the year, they should plan to physically come to the Student Life Office to register their vehicle and receive an on-campus sticker.
Can students request permission to ride in an Uber or with day students?
During appropriate times, students can request to use an Uber, ride with a friend's parents, or ride with a day student. Students who are requesting permission to depart campus in an Uber or with a day student should submit a leave request via REACH with the details filled out as appropriate. Both the Student Life Office and the student's Dorm Head must receive permission from the student's parent/guardian via the REACH request before the student departs.
Can my student keep medication in the dorm?
Students are permitted to keep over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol or Nyquill in their dorm rooms. All prescription medications, however, must be registered with the Health Center. Families will have a chance to register and drop-off medication with the Health Center during registration. Students who take daily medication report to the Health Center each day to receive their medication.
Can day students spend the night in the dorm?
There are many instances when a day student may want or need to spend the night on campus (e.g.,snow storms, after a weekend activity that ends late, to spend time with boarding friends, etc.). We are happy to accommodate students in these situations and will do so on a case-by-case basis throughout the year.
Are students allowed to walk off campus during free time?
During free time, students are permitted to walk anywhere on our extended campus. Extended campus includes downtown New Milford up to the Big Y Supermarket in one direction and Colosseo Restaurant in the other direction. Prior to walking to these locations, students must change their location on REACH from on-campus to “Downtown” and vice versa upon return. Students must be back on immediate campus before the sun goes down.
What size are the dorm rooms?
