Explore & Express Your Creativity at Every Level
Canterbury supports all of our student artists, from those just beginning to Sixth Formers preparing college portfolios.
Getting involved with the arts at Canterbury presents you with many possibilities. It is a chance to create something—whether bringing an image to life on canvas or a character to life on stage. It is also an opportunity to acquire something—new skills, new tools for creative problem-solving, and new opportunities to explore your creative side.
The Arts Within Reach
Just 85 miles from New York City, Canterbury lies within easy reach of world-class museums and music venues, Broadway theater, and stunning cityscapes.
Studio Arts
Beginner and advanced student artists alike express themselves through drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, digital arts, and more.
Instrumental Music
No matter the style or genre, there is something for every musician here, from rock, pop, and jazz to orchestra and chamber music.
Vocal Music
Aspiring singers can join choral ensembles such as Varsity Voices and the Chapel Choir or pursue a number of solo opportunities on and off campus.
Theater
Students who want to be immersed in the world of theater can work either on stage or behind the scenes in our annual fall play, spring musical, or occasional smaller productions.
Carillon Guild
Members learn on a practice clavier in the Chapel of Our Lady, then climb the chapel tower and play the Jose M. Ferrer Memorial Carillon every day.
Stage classic plays like A Midsummer Night’s Dream, lay down some riffs in the Rock Band, or design the building of your dreams in Architecture.
Canterbury offers everything you need to make your arts experience valuable and fulfilling: a broad range of courses in visual art, music, and theater; passionate teachers who are practicing artists themselves; and outstanding facilities, from our recording studio and individual music practice rooms to the Edward J. Duffy Family Art Gallery.
