Athletic Facilities

Canterbury teams compete in the Western New England Athletic Association and in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference at the Division I and II levels. Recent winning seasons and championships reflect our school spirit and the commitment of players and coaches. These include the boys' ice hockey team winning two New England Division I Championships, the girls' ice hockey team winning their own Holiday Ice Hockey Classic and the Princeton Day School Tournament, the football team winning a Class B New England Championship, the volleyball team winning a Western New England title and a wrestler winning a New England Championship and placing at the National Tournament. Such records represent a significant achievement for a school of Canterbury's size.

Higgins Aquatic Center

Canterbury swimmers practice in the William W. Higgins ’53 Aquatic Center, an eight-lane, 25-yard competitive swim and dive pool. The newest, state-of-the-art athletic facility at Canterbury, is one of the finest swimming, diving, and water polo venues in New England.

Ice Rink

Canterbury's ice hockey rink is centrally located off the lobby of the Athletic Center. It is skate-ready in October and has ice until March break. Recent upgrades to the rink include new boards, glass, and compressors. Fans have a close but safe view of the action on the ice.

Pigott Arena

Located within the Alumni Memorial Gymnasium, Pigott is home to the Boys and Girls Basketball teams and in the fall, the Varsity Volleyball team. Fans fill the pulldown bleachers for home games.

Squash Courts

Five International squash courts are located within the Athletic Facility. All courts have glass backs; the exhibition court has two glass walls. Spectators are accommodated in a spacious, well-lit wood gallery.

Field House

Turf Field

A new turf field greeted Canterbury’s Girls Field Hockey team in the fall of 2013. The first completed field in a master plan to upgrade Canterbury’s outdoor fields, the turf field also benefits the spring lacrosse teams.

Softball Field

Tennis Courts

Located in a quiet area on the lower campus behind the Old Schoolhouse, our eight asphalt tennis courts were completed in the fall of 2008. Named for the Fanjul family, the complex contains one stadium court where spectators watch from bleachers. Each set of four courts is divided by an alley from which spectators can watch the play on any one court.

Wrestling Room

Fay Vincent Football Field

Named after donor Fay Vincent, former Commissioner of Baseball, Vincent Field is directly north of the Athletic Center and adjacent to the Sheehan Baseball field. A cinder track circles the football playing field; an elevated area on the east provides an ideal place for spectators to gather.

Housatonic River

Canterbury's crew team does not have to travel far to launch their shells. Our campus is on the hill above the New Milford Village Green which is nestled into a curve of scenic Housatonic River. The boathouse, dock and launch area are located just beyond the Village Green.
