Canterbury-FGS Cup

The Quest for the Cup is On!

Forget Yankees-Red Sox! The rivalry between Canterbury and The Frederick Gunn School (FGS) is the best in the Northeast! The Canterbury-FGS Cup is awarded annually to the school that wins the most athletic contests throughout the year. This spirited Cup tradition began in the 2017-2018 academic year, but the two schools have been athletic rivals for more than a century.

While the competition is year-long, the rivalry is front-and-center during the final week of our fall athletic season—Spirit Week—leading up to Gunn Day, one of the most anticipated days of the school year. Each weekday, students (and faculty!) are encouraged to dress in themed spirit gear to get hyped for Saturday’s games. The excitement reaches its peak on Friday night at the lively pep rally and bonfire. The next day, our teams—typically Varsity and JV Field Hockey and Soccer—take the field vs. FGS.
