Boys' Cross Country
Boy’s Cross Country competes in Division 3 of the New England Preparatory Scholastic Athletic Conference (NEPSAC). Each year, the School hosts the Canterbury Invitational on campus. While celebrating its 50th year in 2023, the race’s name was changed to the Walter Burke Boys’ Cross Country Invitational to honor the long-time coach and Canterbury Athletics Hall of Fame inductee who was one of the event’s founders. In addition, Canterbury hosts the New England Championship meet every other year. The Boys’ Cross Country team won back-to-back NEPSAC Class B championships in 1975 and 1976 and earned the Class C title in 1989.
Ahmed Hussein is no stranger to the boarding school environment, having arrived in the United States as an international student from Somalia attending Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, where he competed on the Boys' Varsity Cross Country, Track, and Wrestling teams. Ahmed went on to earn his bachelor’s in Mathematics from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Most recently, Ahmed taught secondary level STEM courses at Higher Ground Secondary Academy and math at Sylvan Learning Center, both in St. Paul, Minnesota.
In addition to his coaching duties, Lee Whitfield is a Math Teacher and supports the Math Lab in the Donovan Center for Learning at Canterbury. Lee began his teaching career in mathematics at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, New York, and continued at Miss Porter's School and The Taft School, both in Connecticut. Also an Eastern Orthodox priest, he was the Dean of Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Boston, Massachusetts. Recruit Me
