Overview
The Canterbury Boys’ Varsity Hockey team competes in the highly respected New England Prep Hockey Conference. The Saints have won the New England Prep School Division I Championship twice (1994 and 1997) and have earned a New England Tournament bid 14 times, most recently in 2018. The program’s competitive culture and focus on individual skill development have helped numerous players transition to the next level.

Coaches
Head Coach Paddy McCarthy

Paddy McCarthy ’94 is an alumnus of Canterbury’s hockey program. While a student at Canterbury he was a member of the 1994 Division I New England Champion team. Following, Paddy matriculated to St. Anselm College, New Hampshire, where he played NCAA hockey for the Hawks. Paddy has led the hockey team to three recent small school New England tournament appearances in 2014, 2016, and 2018. He was awarded the Vincent J. Reilly Coach of the Year Sportsmanship Award in 2012.
Paddy holds a bachelor's in history from Anselm College and earned a Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Jay Hebert
Jay Hebert joins Canterbury hockey program as the Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator after spending the last 15 years as Head Coach of the San Diego Jr. Gulls Midget program in San Diego, CA. Jay has had the opportunity to coach and develop dozens of players and helped them advance on to prep, junior, NCAA DI/DIII, and professional teams, including a member of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins 2017 Stanley Cup Championship team.
Originally from upstate New York, Jay played hockey at Loomis-Chaffee and then moved onto playing hockey for SUNY Oswego. After graduation, Jay had the opportunity to continue his hockey career with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL. Jay spent five seasons playing for various teams in the minors and retired due to injuries. He is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with over seventeen years’ experience in the field of athletic and human performance.
