COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Like many independent schools in Connecticut and across the country, Canterbury requires a primary course of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses of Pfizer or Moderna; one dose of Johnson & Johnson) as a condition of enrollment for the 2023-2024 academic year.

It is strongly encouraged that all those eligible receive the COVID-19 booster. For further information regarding booster eligibility, please refer to this CDC resource. 

Masking indoors and on buses is no longer required. This extends to families and guests visiting campus. 

We also acknowledge that some members of our community may prefer to remain cautious. Therefore, we support those who wish to continue wearing masks. 

All positive students, regardless of vaccination status, are asked to isolate at home/off campus for at least five days. Day zero is the date of the test if asymptomatic or the date of the onset of symptoms.

As a reminder, all boarding student families should have plans in place for a student to go home/be off campus when testing positive for COVID-19 or other illness like flu. The Health Center can work with families if help is needed to make alternate plans (which could include staying in a local hotel at the family's expense).  

In alignment with current CDC guidelines and peer school protocols, community members may return after five days if fever-free for 24 hours and if symptoms have improved. Upon return to campus, continued indoor masking is required for an additional five days (or less if a negative antigen test can be provided).  

All students who test positive are encouraged to contact their primary care physician to determine if any cardiac screening is indicated.

Access to classroom instruction will be made available to students only if they have been approved for medical leave by Canterbury's Health Center.

To the extent they are able, faculty members who test positive will teach their classes remotely while isolating at home. Students will continue to meet in the regularly assigned classroom, which will be monitored by another faculty member. 

Spectators are permitted at games and are no longer required to be masked when indoors.  As always, we continue to ask all visitors to refrain from coming to campus if they are feeling ill and/or symptomatic.
