English Department

The members of the English Department strive to develop in each student the reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills needed to meet the demands of a college curriculum. Novels, plays, short stories, and poems expose students to a rich variety of classic and contemporary world literature and encourage an interpersonal appreciation for literature of other cultures and all genders. Canterbury students practice revision techniques to produce polished essays in different modes, including the narrative, the descriptive, and the analytic. Fifth and Sixth Formers, except students in AP Language and AP Literature, select two semester-long English electives.
