The Canterbury Moment
Our Capital Campaign -- The Canterbury Moment: An Investment in Leadership -- focuses on two vital priorities: our endowment and strategic facilities upgrades.
It is my pleasure to report to the extended Canterbury Family news regarding our comprehensive campaign. The Canterbury Moment, an Investment in Leadership, is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the school’s history. In conjunction with the Centennial Anniversary, we made the decision to enter into the “public phase” of the Campaign. This was announced at the November Gala celebration in New York City.
At this time, all gifts and future commitments to the Campaign exceed $54 million towards our goal of $75 million. The focus of The Canterbury Moment is two-fold - to build a stronger financial foundation in the form of endowment while continuing to support our critical short-term need for annual giving for current operations. It is with profound appreciation that I extend my thanks to the more than 3,100 Alumni, Parents, Grandparents, Friends and businesses that have invested in Canterbury and our campaign efforts.
We have a significant challenge, as many of you have been involved with fundraising efforts for worthy charities know. The remaining $24 million will not be easy to raise, but is certainly within our reach. We have made significant progress to date and have added 21 new named endowed funds since 2011. These endowed funds support a variety of important institutional needs, including student financial aid, faculty salaries and professional development, academics, athletics, and more.
The 2015-2016 fiscal year brought several philanthropic highlights including: $2.2 million for financial aid, a $3 million bequest (planned gift), and a seven figure gift of a home and property in New Milford. These gifts and commitments are important to our ongoing and future success. This campaign, at this time, is critical to position Canterbury as a leader in Secondary School Catholic education in a highly competitive environment.
