19 Halo Award Nominations for Canterbury School Theater Productions

Canterbury’s Theater Department ambitiously put up two shows this school year in the midst of the pandemic, and the casts’ and crews’ hard work and talent were formally recognized this week: the School received a record 19 Halo Award Nominations for its productions of A Christmas Carol and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Sponsored by the Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury, CT, the 18th Annual Halo Awards recognize the very best in high school theater across the state of Connecticut, with over 60 high schools participating annually. Canterbury received nominations in the following categories:

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play: Bryce Stone ’23 as Fred/Peter Cratchit in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play: Asher Hughes ’24 as Tiny Tim/Fan/Partygoer in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play: Isabella Carioscia ’22 as Ghost of Christmas Present in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Comic Female Performance in a Play: Irene Chen ’24 as Jacob Marley/Man with Packages/Mrs. Dilber/Business Man #2/Passing Brother/Dick Wilkins in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Comic Male Performance in a Musical: Beckett Reynolds ’23 as Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Comic Female Performance in a Musical: Sylvia Pinheiro ’24 as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Costume Design/Execution: Katherine Delamere ’21 for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Lighting Design and/or Execution: Daniella Suarez ’21 & Xavier Leone ’23 for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Sound Design and/or Execution: Giselle Bradshaw ’21 for A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Scenic Design and/or Execution: Celine Yoo ’21, Katherine Delamere ’21, Giselle Bradshaw ’21, Sydney Ragland ’21, Xavier Leone ’23, and Danielle Suarez ’21 for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Special Effects: Giselle Bradshaw ’21, Sydney Ragland ’21, and Celine Yoo ’21, Foley Artists for A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Stage Management: Giselle Bradshaw ’21 for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Play: Ruari Bamrick ’24 as Ghost of Christmas Past/Fred's Wife/PA Voice/Whitlow in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Performance by a Couple or Dynamic Duo in a Musical: Ruari Bamrick ’24 and Torin Kearney ’21 as Ms. Rona Lisa Peretti and Douglas Panch in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Performance by the Cast in an Ensemble Musical: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Male Standout Performance in an Ensemble Musical: Qixiu (Neil) Yao ’22 as William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Female Standout Performance in an Ensemble Musical: Ava Faruol ’24 as Olive Ostrovsky in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play: Sylvia Pinheiro ’24 as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol—Radio Play

Best Musical: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

The virtual award ceremony will take place on July 10 and (free) tickets are available on the Seven Angels Theatre website. A ticket must be reserved in order to receive the link to watch live and a recording of the award ceremony will be available to view for two weeks after the event.
