Alumni Weekend

Over 200 alumni from class years ending in 3s, 8s, and beyond returned to campus for a three-day Reunion celebration on June 8-10.

The class of 1968 kicked off their momentous 50th Reunion with a celebratory dinner and private reception to honor their five decades of committed affiliation with the School. Over two dozens classmates were in attendance for the occasion.

Following, on Friday evening, alumni of all years celebrated the Dreekes' long-standing career at Canterbury with the Curtain Calls & Cocktails event. Dozens of alumni groups performed a cabaret-style show in celebration of the couple's retirement.

Saturday's sunny morning was the perfect backdrop for the Parade of Classes, led by the class of 1968 on their 50th Reunion and aided by the Mulhern children. The day continued with the announcement of the Hall of Fame inductees for the upcoming fall 2018 ceremony. The Canterbury Lacrosse Association hosted their annual competitive alumni game while odd and even-year classes faced-off during a friendly softball competition.

The Annual Meeting of the Society of Alumni also took place on Saturday morning, following the Parade of the Classes. A staple of the Alumni Reunion weekend program, the meeting brought all class years together to recognize two alumni for their outstanding achievements within the Canterbury community and beyond. Paul Hayes Tucker '68 received the Thomas J. Sheehy III Distinguished Alumni Award and Lilly Bertz O'Connor '03 received the Inaugural Outstanding Young Alumni Award. During the celebration, Marc Vanasse '73 was also lauded for his 41 years of service to the School as he retired following the close of the academic year.

During the weekend's celebrations, Head of School Rachel Stone led a discussion on Mission and Momentum: The Campaign for Canterbury. Alumni were invited to participate in a Q&A session and view an interactive fly-over video of the proposed projects.

The weekend concluded with a farewell brunch on Sunday morning. Director of Advancement Carol Maxwell wrote of the weekend that "[the alumni and their families] were entertained and welcomed at every corner, and, most importantly, after three days of activities, their affinity and deep care for the School only grew stronger."
