Canterbury Music Groups Play Off Campus

"If music be the food of love, play on." –William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night

More than 45 Canterbury students took a break from studying this Friday night (2/17/17) at a local Italian restaurant. They ate all the pizza they could while listening to the School's Jazz Combo and Rock Band perform a menu of hot tunes.

Dave Overthrow, Canterbury's director of music and jazz studies, came up with the idea and proposed it to EJ Soifersmith, assistant dean of students, who gave the event the green light.

"This was a win-win for students looking for some Friday night fun off campus and our student musicians who got to perform in a real world setting, " said Dave. "Everyone, students and faculty alike, had a great time. We hope to do more of this kind of thing in the future."

Said John Murray, Jazz Combo guitarist, "Last night was the first time I'd ever performed off campus, so this event was momentous in my development as a musician. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us."

Canterbury's music students will perform an all-band concert on March 3, at 8:00 p.m. in the Original Gym. We hope you can join us.
