Fall Receptions Held at Saranac Brewery and Lake Waramaug Country Club

Kelly Slonaker

Canterbury held fall receptions in September at Saranac Brewery in Utica, NY and Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston, CT.

The reception at Saranac Brewery on September 17 was hosted by Trustee Tom Clark III '86, P '22 and Nick Matt '63, Chairman & CEO of F.X. Matt Brewing Co., and was attended by over 35 people, including alumni and current and past parents. Head of School Rachel Stone addressed the guests and emphasized the importance of Canterbury’s small school setting and its focus on the individual needs and goals of its students. The event served as a great opportunity for some of our more northerly community members to connect, reminisce, and celebrate Canterbury’s achievements and progress.

For the second year in a row, a reception was held on September 20 at the exquisite setting of Lake Waramaug Country Club, with more than 110 parents of students and graduates, prospective students and families, and alumni. Trustee Keith Angell '75 spoke and Rachel Stone greeted parents, students, and alumni with a message focused on what high school should look like in 2019, and how well the Canterbury experience prepares students for college and life beyond its campus. Varsity Voices, the student a cappella singing group, performed the School song, Ut Cantuaria Floreat, under the direction of Choral and Liturgical Music Director Sarah Armstrong. After the performance, the singers mingled with prospective future Saints.

Upcoming admission receptions this fall include an event on October 24 in Locust Valley, NY hosted by Mary Coleman Lynn ’90 and Rob Lynn P ’23. A Fall Open House will take place on Canterbury’s campus on October 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the day’s program will include student guided tours of campus, a student/faculty panel, and more information about the admission process and timeline. An additional reception is scheduled for December 4 in Fairfield, CT hosted by Frank and Philippa Poli P ’18, ’20. All are welcome!
