Fun-Filled Weekend Kicks Off the Canterbury Academic Year

Kelly Slonaker

It's been a busy first week back on the hilltop! Our preseason athletes and student leaders were among the first to arrive on campus, and filled their initial few days with practices, team outings, bonding activities, and leadership trainings. The School welcomed back all students and community members this past Friday, with student leaders and athletic teams helping to move new boarding students into their dormitories and guiding day students through registration.

As the first week of September drew to a close, international families and new parents were greeted with welcome receptions, and all students had the opportunity to connect (and reconnect) with each other at Friday's All School Cookout.

The festivities continued through the weekend with Form Orientation activities on Saturday, including a scavenger hunt to orient Third Formers to campus, and class-bonding exercises for all forms. Students (and faculty) got to unwind and end the day with their respective forms during Form Fun, which included friendly competition on the basketball and volleyball courts in the Fieldhouse and Pigott Arena, soccer and Spike ball on the turf, s'mores on the Duffy Patio and more snacks and games spread throughout the campus.

Sunday afternoon's Canterbury Fest offered campus-wide entertainment for the whole community with kickball, Spike ball and various lawn games on Sheehan Field; sno-cones and popcorn on Sheehan Patio; t-shirt tie-dying on Duffy Patio; a giant slip 'n' slide on the South House lawn; and volleyball games on the Beach Volleyball Court. A quiet evening allowed all Saints to rest up before the first day of classes on Monday.

We're looking forward to another great year!
