Canterbury School is pleased to announce that Jake Dellorco has been appointed its first Director of Strategic Enrollment Management, effective July 1, 2021. In this newly created role, Jake will bring a dedicated, metric-driven, market-focused strategy to the School’s recruitment and retention efforts; collaborate across all areas of school life to track, measure, improve, and sustain the lifecycle of our students, from prospective students to alumni; and provide management and oversight to our Admission operations.
Jake joined Canterbury in 2017 as Dean of Students, following nearly ten years of independent school teaching. In his time on our hilltop, he has had an immeasurable impact on our student community. He has broadened opportunities for student leadership, has been the architect of many programs that define our students’ co-curricular and residential life experiences, and has empowered students to express themselves and share their stories through the creation of myriad clubs and community affinity groups. Additionally, he has been a partner in the evolution and expansion of our D’Amour Center for Faith, Service & Justice and has helped to guide the School’s reaffirmed commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Jake received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tufts University, MA, and began his career at Blair Academy, NJ, as a math instructor and coach of football, basketball, and baseball. Jake then earned a Master of Arts in Independent School Leadership from the Klingenstein Center, Columbia University Teachers College, NY, and spent three years at Choate Rosemary Hall, CT, as faculty in the Mathematics Department, Director of Choate's Prefect Program, and a Dean of the Summer Program. In addition to serving as the Dean of Students at Canterbury, Jake has taught Probability and Statistics (including Advanced Placement), coached Varsity Football, and has been the Dorm Head of Carmody House, where he and his wife Meredith reside.
“Jake has an outstanding record of leadership and effective collaboration in independent school settings and is passionately committed to the recruitment and retention of mission-minded students,” said Head of School Rachel Stone. “His vast array of skills and deep, broad experience in areas of school life beyond admissions position him well to drive our enrollment agenda forward with strategies that are informed by research, data, and, most of all, Canterbury’s unique value proposition.”
Jake joins our team of seven talented admission professionals in a shared commitment to advancing Canterbury’s success and to meeting the School’s enrollment goals in the highly competitive boarding school market. Independent of this structural move, Director of Admission Matt Mulhern ’95, P ’22 has announced his departure from Canterbury at the end of June. Motivated by the need to move closer to family with health issues, he has accepted a role in the Admission office at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. Since arriving in 2013, Matt has led a sharp, hard-working Admission team whose collective efforts have strengthened the excellence and diversity of our student body, having recognized the unique talents, passions, and potential in every future Saint. We are deeply grateful for Matt’s leadership and service. He, his wife Lindsay, and their family will be sorely missed in our community.
