Jessica Garcia '19 and Giorgo Caripidis Soto '19 were selected to perform in the Connecticut All-State Music Festival in Hartford, CT this past weekend, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Educators (NAFME) and Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA).
Both students participated in a rigorous audition process during which each had to perform assigned solos, scales, and a sight-reading exercise to be chosen for the choir. Jessica '19 and Giorgo '19 were selected for the Regional Northern Choir which was hosted in January in New Britain, CT before advancing to the All-State Choir. Both were then eligible to join other musicians from across the state to perform at the state festival held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Three days of intensive rehearsals led to the weekend performance.
Jessica '19 has been a member of Varsity Voices, Chorale, Chapel Choir, Choral Director Sarah Armstrong's private voice studio, and "Sing Out." She is currently playing the part of the Baker's Wife in Canterbury's spring musical, Into the Woods. In addition to the work she contributes to all of her vocal ensembles, Jessica has performed in every theatrical production at Canterbury since arriving here as a III Former. This is her second year performing in both the Northern Regional and All-State Honors Choir.
Giorgo '19 is a member of Varsity Voices, Chorale, Chapel Choir, and Sarah Armstrong's private voice studio. He plays the role of Cinderella's Prince in Into the Woods and was selected to participate in the Regional and All-State Honors Choir his first year auditioning.
"Jessica and Giorgo embody the talent, work ethic, and passion needed to excel as musicians, ensemble members, and good citizens," writes Sarah Armstrong. "I'm so proud of their efforts in navigating this challenging undertaking as well as the pride they took in their stellar work at the festival this past weekend."
