The Juried Student Art opened on Friday, February 23 in the Edward J. Duffy Family Art Gallery. Students of all Forms showcased their work in classes ranging from Ceramics to Advanced Drawing.
Honorable Mention and Award of Excellence prizes were awarded in each category: Intro to Art, Advanced Drawing, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, and Sculpture.
The Award of Excellence, given to only one or two students within each group, was based on students' ability to create at a consistently high level and to demonstrate original solutions to assignments, mastery of the materials used, and strong technical skills and concepts. The following students were recipients of the award in their respective categories: Betsy Ondrey '21 (Intro to Art), Jami Procanik '19 (Ceramics), Nova Chen '19 (Painting, Advanced Drawing), Meaghan Francis '18 (Photography), Jade Brinker '20 (Printmaking), Brigida Caruso '19 (Drawing, Sculpture), and Shannon Gao '20 (Advanced Drawing).
"This a wonderful opportunity for students," noted Kim Tester, Chair of the Fine Arts Department. "Many are first time art students and are amazed at what they can accomplish. We are very excited for them."
The students' work will be on display in the Edward J. Duffy Family Art Gallery from Saturday, February 24 through the end of the March break.
