Maguire Auditorium Opens Following Summer Renovations

The beginning of the academic year is chalked full of community gatherings, from the start-of-year preseason talk to the Head of School address for new students as well as the first all-School Friday Meeting led by our newly minted Sixth Form Council members.

Unique to this academic year, the Canterbury community hosts all full-community gatherings in the newly renovated Maguire Auditorium.

A transformative $1 million gift, funded in December 2017, provided the pivotal beginnings to renovate the space, and Gilbane Construction began the ambitious remodel after the last academic day in May 2018.

Before the construction began, students were asked to provide their opinions and perspective on our vital community gathering spaces. This work was done in tandem with a full-campus planning process hosted by the architect firm S/L/A/M Collaborative. With their feedback and critical perspective in mind, renovations took shape this past summer, and in September 2018, the remodel was complete.

The project entirely reimagined the critical anchor space with new seating, flooring, and improved lighting and acoustic finishes, dramatically enhancing the look and function of the auditorium. The Auditorium is central to campus life and one of the first spaces that prospective families visit when they tour campus.

The transformative space welcomed back new and returning students for the first campus-wide gathering of the school year, and the School has already began use of this transformative space for the fall's theater production, Peter and the Starcatcher!
