Saints Feel Right at Home on Alumni Weekend

You could feel the positive energy all around campus when our Saints returned to their alma mater for an unforgettable Alumni Weekend.

The festivities kicked off last Friday night with check-in and refreshments, followed by the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. Congratulations to our 2023 Hall of Fame class—Sargent Shriver ’34 (posthumous), Joe Flanagan ’88, Ross Moscatelli ’91, Lauren Falcone ’01, and Krista R. O’Gara ’12. 

The evening concluded with “Spirits at Sheehan” on the Sheehan House Terrace, an after-hours social ideal for relaxing and enjoying the “spirited” company of classmates and friends.

Saturday brought more joy as alumni continued to share memories and rekindle friendships. Guests had access to the athletic facilities in the morning, took guided campus tours, and enjoyed an Around the World Array Luncheon showcasing the cuisines of France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, and the United States.

In the early afternoon, Head of School Rachel Stone P ’23, ’24 offered a preview of People, Purpose, Program, Permanence: Canterbury School Strategic Plan 2023-2028, an exciting roadmap that sets Canterbury’s priorities moving forward.

Alumni then gathered on Sheehy Family Field for lawn games, children’s activities, an ice cream truck, and more. A highlight was the craft beer tasting hosted by Juan Camilo ’03, Founder/President of Dyckman Beer Co. in New York City. The Alumni Memorial Mass was also observed on Saturday evening in the Chapel of Our Lady, where Father Steve DeMaio ’03 led the service in memory of our deceased graduates. The day’s grand finale was a cocktail hour and lively night of dinner and dancing in the Steers Center Ragland Commons.  

The day’s activities were a hit with alumni young and old. “I loved seeing the improvements to campus and reconnecting with friends I have not seen since graduation,” said Will Dowler ’18. “It was also a great opportunity to meet older alumni and share ideas for the future of Canterbury.”

The weekend wrapped up Sunday morning with a hot buffet breakfast in the Dining Hall, taking alumni back to their days as students lining up for those delicious scrambled eggs and pastries.

Such interactions are precisely what graduates like Neil Boylan ’79 love about Alumni Weekend. “It was another phenomenal weekend atop Aspetuck Avenue,” he said. “The School puts on a great event every...single...time. Thank you, Canterbury, for having us and for making it supremely memorable.”
