Following a restful winter break, students and faculty returned to the hilltop for the first full day of classes on Thursday, January 3.
During the semester’s inaugural School Meeting, the community celebrated several varsity team successes over the break. Girls’ Varsity Hockey defeated Kents Hill, ME, The Governor's Academy, MA, and Holderness School, NH at the annual Governor’s Academy Girls’ Hockey Holiday Invitational to bring home the champion trophy. Similarly, Boys’ Varsity Basketball won 67-59 over Peddie School, NJ and 74-56 over The Governor’s School, MA at the Annual Mercer Invitational.
While use of the word “spring” may seem preemptive given the blustery term between, Director of Theater Sarah Armstrong is already underway with preparations for the spring musical, Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Excitingly, the cast list has recently been posted after weeks of audition prep and auditions, while the Theater Tech group has begun manufacturing the infernal scenery.
Inside the classroom, students began semester-long coursework in several, popular electives. Upperformers are creating models in the Architecture elective in the Fine Arts Department with Chair Kim Tester while the Engineering class is already collecting cardboard boxes for their final project—the much-anticipated boat race across the pool in their self-designed structures!
We are excited to have the community back in full force for the semester!
