Students Thank Alumni for their gifts to the Annual Fund
Meredith Berry-Toon

Current Canterbury Sixth and Fifth Formers spent their Tuesday evening in conversation with alumni in support of the Annual Fund. The focus of the calls was to thank alumni for their dedicated support of the Annual Fund—the first ever “Thank-a-thon” hosted by the School!

“The energy in the room was great!” remarked Meredith Gal, Director of Annual Giving and Parent Development. “The students had such positive attitudes and did a fantastic job representing our community. We look forward to upcoming Thank-a-thons in future months!”

The seven student callers on February 12 included Sherley Arias-Pimental ‘19, Willem Steiner ‘19, John Martiska ‘19, Jessica Garcia ‘19, Steven Zhi Lou ‘19, Lia Aijing Ma ‘19, and Joey Ciotti ‘20. Together, the group called over 160 alumni and simultaneously raised $2,250. “It was fun to speak with and get to know the alums I called,” noted Lia ‘19. “It was really interesting to hear their perspective and talk about our joint experiences at Canterbury—and to learn why it was important to them to give back to our School!”

On the second evening, students were prepped and ready to go with advice from Kate Heslin '96, Director of Alumni Relations: “Alumni want to know what is happening on campus, and you’re the best resource! Smile on the phone—you can always hear it on the other end!” The returning callers raised $1,065 the second evening and spoke with 148 additional alumni.

The total of $3,315 over both evenings will go directly to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund provides critical resources for programs and initiatives that benefit the entire community and offers flexibility for faculty take advantage of emerging opportunities and meet new challenges. From financial aid, to academic programs, to technology,  building enhancements and campus life—any gift to the Annual Fund helps to establish this core funding source which ensures the vitality of our School and its key priorities.

Many thanks to our student ambassadors and our alumni for their participation these two evenings! The fiscal year ends on June 30, so if you missed the opportunity to speak to a student but would still like to make a gift, please click below to give online.
