Students Welcome Grandparents to Campus

Meredith Berry-Toon
On May 3, Canterbury hosted its 22nd Annual Grandparents' Day. More than 100 grandmothers and grandfathers, including two from Texas, participated in the morning event.

In Maguire Auditorium, head of school Rachel Stone introduced herself to the guests and spoke about her vision for Canterbury.

Following Rachel's remarks, seven members of the cast of this year's spring musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"performed "Pretty Little Picture," a number from the show. They were followed by vocal selections by Nellie Horvath, Jessica Garcia, and Selina Xin, members of Canterbury's Schola Cantorum.

With the entertainment portion of the program concluded, students took their grandparents to two of their classes. In many cases, the "senior" members of the class participated in the discussion and/or period activity.

To round out the program, students enjoyed a delicious lunch with their grandparents in Steele Hall Dining Room. The ice cream bar, with its four flavors and numerous toppings, was a big hit.

Thanks to all the grandparents who shared in the academic life of their grandchildren by experiencing firsthand Canterbury's excellent curriculum and what makes the School such a warm and welcoming community.

As one student remarked, "I wish everyday was grandparents' day."
