Students, faculty, and parents gathered in Maguire Auditorium on May 24 for the Underform Awards ceremony. This was Canterbury's first awards event to recognize only underformers.
After an opening prayer delivered by deacon Frank Bice '77, head of school Rachel Stone offered welcoming remarks.
To underformers, she said, "Collectively, you have approached new experiences with an open mind, accepted challenges even when it would have been easier to play it safe, and hopefully learned a great deal about yourselves along the way."
Senior Master JP Mandler, who will retire in June after 46 years of service to Canterbury, then read each award citation and the name of each award recipient.
Members of the Schola Cantorum provided terrific entertainment, singing "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" and "Party in the USA."
Dean of Students Peter LaVigne then announced student leaders, such as sacristans and proctors, for next year.
In her closing remarks, Rachel said, "Know that we look forward to your return and that our high expectations of you as members of this community stem from hope and confidence. We believe in you."
The Sixth Form Awards ceremony will occur May 25 at 4:00 p.m. in Maguire Auditorium.
