Weekend in Review: Christmas Concert, Basketball and Hockey Wins

Meredith Berry-Toon

On Friday, December 8, the Jazz R&B Combo, Chamber Group, Concert Jazz Group, and Orchestra performed for the Canterbury community at the annual Christmas concert. Conducted by faculty members David Overthrow and Hafez Taghavi, the show was the culmination of the students' semester-long work in their instrumental courses. Students performed holiday favorites, movie theme music, and jazz classics.

While snow (the first of the season!) cancelled many of the remaining weekend activities, Girls' and Boys' Varsity Hockey both hosted games on Saturday in the O'Neill Arena. The girls faced off against Albany Academy, winning 5-2. Meaghan Francis '18 had a hat trick for the girls', scoring twice in the second and once in the third. The boys challenged Loomis Chaffee and tied the game 4-4. Anthony Cusano '18, the boys' goalie, had a 90 percent save percentage.

After the snow subsided, the Boys' Varsity Basketball traveled to Babson College for a match-up against Brimmer & May on Sunday, December 10 in the Scholar Roundball Classic. The Boys' won 66-59. Keiffer Punter '18 and Mike Speight '18 led the the Saints in baskets as the team competed in front of many college-level coaches, including those from Brown, Colgate, Brandeis, and Providence.
