Winter Athletes Honored as Season Comes to a Close

Winter athletes who made outstanding contributions to their varsity team during this past season were honored at the annual Winter Athletics Award Ceremony on Tuesday, March 5.

The NEPSSA-DIII winning Boys’ Varsity Swim & Dive team was also honored at the assembly and presented their trophy to Head of School Rachel Stone.

“The best way to sum up our swim season is to share what I have told the team,” noted Swim Coach Christine Harding regarding the team’s win. “Trust in the process, trust in your effort, trust in your hard work, trust in each other, and trust in yourself!”

She, along with the other Head Coaches, presented two awards to their athletes: the MVP Award and Coach’s Award.

Coach Conroy presented the MVP Wrestling Award to Adrian deCola ‘19 and the Guiseppei “Joe” Leto Wrestling Award for the greatest contribution to team effort to Sean Quaye ‘21.

Coach Omaña presented the MVP Girls’ Squash Award to Ella Oecese ‘21 and Tori Congdon ‘20 and the Coach’s Award to Whitney Schwitter ‘19.

Coach Seth presented the MVP Boys’ Squash Award to Brendan Omaña ‘19 and the Coach’s Award to Alex Luo ‘19 and Willem Steiner ‘19.

Coach Soifersmith presented the MVP Girls’ Basketball Award to Jacalyn Pugliese ‘19 and the Don K. Gowan Basketball Award for the player who best embodies what Don Gowan expected of all his players representing Canterbury Basketball—integrity, respect, and sportsmanship—to Megan LeBlanc ‘20.

Coach McCarthy presented the MVP Boys’ Hockey Award to Matt Iasenza ‘19 and the Coach’s Award to Connor Cherry ‘19.

Coach Mandigo presented the MVP Girls’ Hockey Award to Jade Brinker ‘19.


Coach Baudinet presented the MVP Boys’ Basketball Award to  Brian Powell ‘19 and the Don K. Gowan Basketball Award for the player who best embodies what Don Gowan expected of all his players representing Canterbury Basketball—integrity, respect, and sportsmanship—to Tray Alexander ‘20.

Coach Harding presented the MVP Girls’ Swimming Award to Gianna Terracino ‘19 and the Coach’s Award to Lexah Caraluzzi ‘21. She then presented the MVP Boys’ Swimming Award to Spencer McLean ‘19 and the Coach’s Award to Matt Martin ‘19 and Ryan Greguski ‘20.
