On Monday, January 19, the College Counseling Office shared information about Summer Enrichment Programs with all students.

This document includes information about summer programs available to high school students, organized so that college-specific programs are followed by programs dedicated to particular interests (e.g., community service, travel abroad, STEM, journalism). Take a look!

This year, Grandparents & Friends Day will be held on Wednesday, April 15.

To help us personally invite your guests, please use this form to submit the names and contact details of the grandparents and friends you would like us to invite to the celebration.

Please note that completing this form does not register your guests to attend. A separate event registration and additional information will be sent directly to grandparents and friends at a later date. Thank you for helping us in these first steps to make the day special!

Join us for one of the School's most beloved musical traditions on Friday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Maguire Auditorium. This annual concert invites select alumni to return to the hilltop and perform alongside current student musicians, linking performers from Canterbury’s past and present. The result is an evening filled with meaningful memories, incredible music, and lots of fun. Alumni are also welcome to attend and enjoy the performance. A registration link will be posted on the Canterbury website in the near future. For questions, please contact David Overthrow, Director of Music, at doverthrow@cbury.org.

The Hume Speech Competition is a long-standing tradition at Canterbury School that instills the importance of public speaking and articulating thoughts clearly and effectively to an audience. Each form is assigned a topic, and all will be given the opportunity to compete in February. A winner in each form will be announced before March Break.

Third and Fourth Form students will continue the traditional Hume Speech Competition requirement, in which all students will be tasked with presenting a speech in their English class. Third Form students select an established poetic piece to recite in one to two minutes, while Fourth Form students will write their own unique two-to-three-minute speech based on the topic assigned to their form.

Fifth and Sixth Form students will speak for four to six minutes on a topic set by their English teachers based on course content. While some teachers in this cohort may not require participation, students in those classes will still have the option of competing under the guidance of English teacher Amy Franklin.

Each student will meet with their English teacher at least once before giving their speech to their class. While students may vote for class winners, the final selection for each class will remain at the teacher’s discretion. Nominations will be submitted to the Co-Chairs of the Hume Competition Committee, Ms. Darrin and Mr. McEnroe. Finalists will then present their speech to the full school.

A winner from each form will be selected by faculty judges. Winners will be announced after the competition and acknowledged during the awards ceremony at the end of the year.

Before our Winter Weekend and March Break, we want to remind our families about departure and return protocols. While Canterbury schedules a shortened school day to allow families to travel and get students to transportation hubs, Getaway Day does not begin until the end of students' last scheduled class. As such, absences before or after designated vacation times will not be excused.

Similar to previous vacations, we have asked students to complete a travel survey to let us know when they will leave and return to campus, and to help facilitate travel to and from travel hubs at the times indicated on the School's Transportation & Travel page. Having complete information for all students allows us to plan ahead for transportation needs.

Ends: Monday, February 9, 2026 (Boarders return on February 9 by 7:00 PM)
